Rabiu Aliyu Popurlay known as Rabal who is the current Chief Executive Officer of Syrol Technologies Limited, a company that is into research and development of services and training said that he is a firm believer that skills are more valuable than degrees. '
He noted that success and development are not solely dependent on academic qualifications but on the ability to adapt, learn, and innovate in a rapidly evolving world.
Rabiu Aliyu has built a successful career in software research and development, leading numerous companies to new heights. His belief in the power of skills over degrees has shaped his approach to hiring and building people for professional growth. By prioritizing skills development and continuous learning, he positioned his companies Syrol Technologies Limited, Periom News and Research Center, and others that employed and built many different people in the country.
Aliyu has also won numerous accolades at the national and international level, which include a medal in Talented African Student, awarded by the Union of African Students in Asia 2016, a flick Star of the Year in Fintech, awarded by Arewa Agenda, and 2024 awarded as Most outstanding software engineer awarded by State Bank of India 2017 and many more.
Rabiu Aliyu holds a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology from NIMS University Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, and a Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Zambia although the certificates were not used throughout his career. He emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience and expertise in the field.
Aliyu noted that his proficiency in software engineering led to numerous job opportunities with companies that recognized and valued his skills. He added that companies usually requested him to be part of them, in most cases he doesn't apply for positions, this according to him if you possessed the relevant skills ,then organizations will expressed their interest towards your skills.
Aliyu also said that:
" In 2016 I had my internship at OPPO Mobile Limited in Pune India, the experience was awe-inspiring, it's my starting point, and it's at the same place that I truly realized how important potentiality and skills are"
Aliyu said that in 2017 he joined the State Bank of India, as a software engineer, and contributed to the development of payment gateways and mobile banking platforms that are used all over India.
In 2018 he joined MTN SA in South Africa as a Full-stack software engineer consultant where he contributed to building some services of the MyMTN app that is used nationwide today.
Aliyu said working in Mtn is the turning point of his career and emphasized that till date his degree certificate has not been requested as an evidence of his expertise, which is why he strongly believed and testified that skills are rather than just a degree, as he is a sampling product.
